By Abbey Grace Yap

To quit smoking is one of the most difficult vices to do. It is a form of substance abuse that people don't seem to mind simply because it does not seem to have the same adverse effects as other controlled substances do. But that's what they think. Doctors can tell you otherwise.

Smoking brings a lot of harmful effects to the body. You didn't think that the four thousand toxic chemicals inside the cigarette would not take its toll on your health, right? A smoker can develop a multitude of illnesses, such as heart disease, lung diseases, blood vessel complications, and certain forms of cancer. These should be enough to shake you off of your habit and get you to stop smoking. However, a lot of people continuously fail in their attempt to get rid of their smoking habits because of the withdrawal symptoms they experience.

Yes, people do get withdrawal symptoms when they try to quit smoking. Most people would contest this saying that they did not take any illegal drugs. Unfortunately, the nicotine found in cigarettes affect the brain in a way similar to morphine it induces a better mood and at the same time builds up a tolerance in the brain so that once the tolerance level is reached, the brain will start asking for more nicotine. Most people who try to quit smoking are partially successful. They're able to quit for a short period of time until the nicotine cravings become too unbearable and just give up.
